This little scenario put some more tools in the guy’s hands. We jammed a metal ring around a dummy’s arm. The goal was to cut the ring off without cutting the coat or dummy.
A couple points to remember that will make sense as you check out the pictures:
- A mechanism to cool the material being cut is needed so you don’t burn the patient. In this case we ran IV fluid to cool the material.
- If the patient is pinned in a particular position, be sure to protect other body parts.
- Stabilize the material being cut. Some of our tools spin at high speeds and could bounce or kick.
- Put something between the material being cut and the patient. In this case we used a spatula.
