Name This Tool – We Need Some Help

Brother Blodgett sent these pictures over of an old school tool.  It has been riding a rig for decades.  No markings or names on it.  We are trying to identify the story behind it.  If you know the name or have any information please share.  Brother Brassard is on the hunt for answers as well.

I think we will name it “GEORGE”…..no its a early Halligan…before the days of on-line companies, many of us would make our own version…

Not sure about the Kelly Tool which has an adz, the Jonny-bar not so sure either. Claw tool, well this bar seems to have a pike like the haligan, but in the usual location of the adz. Maybe a modified something or other…

Hey guys, great post! Never seen one quite like this, which leads me to suspect that it’s a home-made. It looks to me like it was inspired by either the Claw Tool, the Patrol Bar, or BOTH.

I’ve seen a good many home-made Kelly Tools that were simply a solid steel shaft with a splitting wedge welded at one end in-line with the long-axis of the shaft for a “fork”, and another welded at the other end perpendicular to the shaft as an “adz”.

I’ve never seen a Claw Tool with the fork oriented opposite to the claw, which is one of the things making me suspect home-made. I’d like to see the fork in close-up, that might be the key to figuring out if it’s manufactured or home-welded.

    Again, great pic!
